Colorectal cancer screening should begin at age 45 in African Americans.*

Colorectal cancer screening is recommended to begin at age 50 in Caucasians. However, incidence, mortality and morbidity rates of colorectal cancer are higher in African Americans.  A higher proportion of African Americans also present with colorectal cancer under age 50 compared with Whites and have a lower 5 year survival rate compared with Whites.
